Aren’t these cute? A few years ago, we planned my grandma’s 80th birthday party. Every table at the party was decorated as a different decade. On the 1930’s table, we created mason jar picture frames for the centerpiece. Now, almost four years later, the pictures still look great and our displayed in my mom’s house. It’s a super simple craft decor idea!
Mason Jar Picture Frames
First, find some glass jars of different sizes. You can buy Mason Jars for this project or use regular glass jars from pasta sauce or fruit. Just wash and clean the label off. If you don’t want a company logo on top of the lid, check out this post on lid covers. (The mason jar links are affiliate links that help support this blog. Read our disclosure page for more information.)
Second, have photos printed that will fit in jar or trim your photos. Because all of my grandma’s photos were from the 1930’s with no digital copy, we scanned all the photos and printed new prints. We put two photos back-to-back in every jar, so that we could turn the jars and not see just plain photo paper on one side.
Note: When you put your pictures in the jar, note any curves on the jar that may distort the photo. We didn’t notice this picture below until it was too late, so we just turn it towards the back.
Third, pour vegetable oil into the jar until full. I used vegetable oil because I like the color and for cost effectiveness. We bought a gallon jug and used it for all 4 mason jar picture frames.
Fourth, seal the lid. We used Krazy glue, but I’ve used hot glue gun on other mason jar projects.
That’s it! Super simple, right? Like I said earlier, we’ve had our mason jar picture frames for almost 4 years now, and the photos have continued to look great.

I’ve only ever tried this for Halloween decorations but this sounds like it would be super cute for everyday photos! I’ll definitely give this a go.
